BioWhen I left home in 1983 I moved into a low-rent bohemian campus flop house inhabited by punks, computer geeks, and other social miscreants.
Just up the road from our place, was a decrepit pharmacy (complete with a soda fountain). Spray painted on the wall near the entrance was the following:
be silent.
consume.
die.
I have no idea why these words have haunted me nearly all of my adult life.
As for more conventional bio information:
I am currently a graduate student and have been working on my Ph.D. in statistics for the last four years. I am leaving in June without a Ph.D. (I'll have an MS) to persue a career as a father (that job starts in March). My area of expertise is in stochastic modeling of complex systems.
On a lighter note, I've recently become a hard bop fanatic, and have been know to dabble in Garage rock, surf, punk, and 'classic' jazz of the 20's-30's.
